The Council of Ministers erased 4,702 so-called ghost civil servants from its payroll following last year’s civil servant census, saving the government $4 million, Ngo Hongly, secretary-general of the council administrative reform office, said yesterday. “There are more than 4,000 officials who did not come to work. We usually call them ghost officials,” he said, adding that some had died or quit their jobs… In 2010, he said the number of government workers stood at just under 200,000 meaning ghost employees comprised 2.3 percent of the payroll.
Someone really should start a Cambodian Tea Party.

7. Bad, Worse, Worst – That’s the only way I can describe: Morning Glory, the Switch, and Little Fockers. I’m pretty sure all three of these movies were supposed to be comedies, but I don’t remember laughing once at any of them. I don’t even think I cracked a smile during Little Fockers, which is easily one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen.
8. About Damn Time – Well it looks like someone’s finally going to jail! A few days ago, Lee Farkas, the former chairman of Florida-based Taylor Bean & Whitakerwas, was convicted of 14 counts of fraud for a $3 billion mortgage scheme. The scheme which ultimately resulted in the company’s 2009 collapse put its 2,000 employees out of work and also contributed to the collapse of Alabama-based Colonial Bank, the sixth-largest bank failure in U.S. history.
Neil Barofsky, TARP’s former special inspector general, has called the Farkas case “the most significant criminal prosecution to date rising out of the financial crisis.” (Jury Convicts Exec in $3B Mortgage Fraud)

9. The Gift of Donald Trump – If you’re a democrat you’ve gotta love all the attention Donald Trump is getting right now. The longer he dominates the 2012 GOP conversation, the harder it’s going to be for the legit candidates like Romney and Pawlenty to generate the excitement they’re gonna need to mount a serious challenge to Obama.
10. RIP Tim Hetherington – Three months ago, the late Tim Hetherington posted this video “Diary” online. He describes it as a “highly personal and experimental film that expresses the subjective experience of my work, and was made as an attempt to locate myself after ten years of reporting. It’s a kaleidoscope of images that link our western reality to the seemingly distant worlds we see in the media.”
