Wedding Photos, the (New) New York Times, and My Future Best Friend…

1. Back To School – Well after about forty days of vacation, classes resumed this morning at the Prey Sundek School. And by resumed I mean that the students showed up, the teachers showed up, and then everyone went home. It will probably be another week before the learning part actually starts up again.

2. All’s Quiet on the Northern Front - In the last 48 hours the Thai/Cambodian border has been quiet and the police officers in my town have taken off their jungle fatigues. I guess its time to get back to the card games.

3. Wedding Photos – A few pictures from last nights wedding…

(And stay tuned for more wedding photos later in the week- including photos from the big US/Khmer wedding happening this Sunday.)

4. You Look Like George Bush – In the last two years I’ve been told by Cambodians that I look like the following people:

  • Tom Cruise
  • David Beckham
  • Cristiano Ronaldo
  • George W. Bush
  • Justin Beeber
  • Some guy in a Taylor Swift music video?

If that’s not proof that Cambodians think all white people look-alike, I don’t know what is?

5. My Future Best Friend – Check out “The Decision (on Law School). Guess where he’s going?

Special thanks to another future Michigan Law student for pointing this out.

6. What I’m Reading This Week - Justice: What’s the Right Thing to Do? by Michael J. Sandel and Scorpions: The Battles and Triumphs of FDR’s Great Supreme Court Justices by Noah Feldman.

I’m starting my legal education early. I figure the more I read now, the less of an idiot I’ll look like later.

7. “The Economist to Halt Production for a Month to Let Readers Catch Up” – God I wish this Onion headline was real. Right now I have at least fifteen half read Economists sitting on my desk and every week the pile grows…

8. Three Articles You Should Read - If you have time, all three of these articles are interesting and worth reading, but if you only have time for one make sure you read Revolver.

Revolver: Why do some of the most capable public servants in America, people like economist Peter Orszag, keep circling back from Washington to Wall Street? One guess… (New York Magazine)

Obama’s Young Mother Abroad (New York Times Magazine)

Goldman’s Alpha War: Steve Friedman’s decision to quit as chairman of Goldman Sachs, in 1994, during one of its darkest hours, stunned and angered his partners. And despite Friedman’s maneuverings, it created a leadership crisis as the mismatched team of Jon Corzine and Henry Paulson took the helm. In an adaptation from his book Goldman, William D. Cohen reveals how secret merger discussions put the expansive trader and the hardheaded banker on a collision course, setting the stage for the firm it would soon become. (Vanity Fair)

9. The (New) New York Times – The New York Times isn’t the same without Bob Herbert and Frank Rich. It’s also not the same having to ration your articles every month. I need a new newspaper.

10. Happy (Belated) Earth Day – And to celebrate here are some awesome photos from NASA…

See that your future best friend removed his “Decision on law school” video. My bet is that he got a “howler” from his mother! Might be a crocodile/duck
    scenario.
Glad to hear you are back at school and that the Cambodia version of the royal wedding is fast approaching. Cannot wait for those pics. Can you download the onenews app?

The newlyweds leaving today. 5A very sad though we did have an action packed blast of a weekend. Terence the big winner on the golf course and the ping pong table!

    • Cooper Knowlton

Yeah looks like he took it down. Too bad… it was pretty funny.

Glad everyone had a good time this weekend. Can’t wait to take back the throne this summer.

PS/ Agree wholeheartedly about missing Bob Herbert and Frank Rich. Especially on Sunday. The NYT is simply not the same. Still, not sure you really want another newspaper. Try logging into our account. That might solve your problem

    Judge Ends NFL Lockout:
“The public interest represented by the fans of professional football–who have a strong investment in the 2011 season–is an intangible interest that weighs against the lockout.”
U.S. District Judge Susan Richard Nelson

Hope this link works… made me sweat just watching it. How brave are you?

OMG! Can’t we just stick to tennis, golf, ping pong and the occasional marathon? Don’t want ANYBODY getting any CRAZY ideas.
